My parents live in the Spokane Valley and there is a large wildfire burning in the Dishman Hills. They have issued an evacuation order for Sprague to 32nd and Park to University. My parents live within that zone, but they have said that the wind is blowing west and since they live on the very east side of the zone that they aren't going to evacuate at this point. Park Place retirement community is basically next door to my parents and they haven't evacuated at all, so my parents have said that if they start evacuating them then they will probably leave as well. It's always been a bit nerve-wracking living with our backyard's backyard being the Dishman Hills because there have been a number of small wildfires since we've lived there, this is the biggest however, and it seems that some houses have already burned. When I talked to my parents this evening they said the sky was all glowing, but they couldn't smell the smoke (because of the wind blowing away from them) and they knew what they would take if they had to evacuate and that they would call me if they did. Mom said she wouldn't sleep well, and I might not either, hopefully tomorrow it is not so windy and they will be able to get the fire contained. Good thoughts for those people who are out of their houses and for those who have already lost their houses and hope that nobody else does.
